Kitchener Rangers News Release
KITCHENER, November 7, 2007 - RBC today announced the opportunity for 18 Ontario athletes to win a $5,000 scholarship from RBC and OHL Clubs across Ontario.
The RBC Scholastic Achievement Awards will be awarded to one male and one female grade 12 student who excels in hockey and academics in select Ontario Hockey League markets. Through an online application process, the recipients will receive a $5,000 scholarship to the post secondary institution of their choice for September 2008. Each student chosen will receive $1,000 a year and $2,000 in their fourth year, provided an academic average of 70% is maintained.
"We are thrilled to increase our RBC Scholastic Achievement awards this year," said Jane Black, RBC's regional vice president for Greater Waterloo region. "As many students are unable to continue their post secondary studies because of lack of financial support, RBC has provided a multi-year scholarship to help students financially throughout their undergraduate careers."
"The Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club is a proud supporter of this initiative," said Brad Sparkes, Director of Sales and Marketing for the Kitchener Rangers. "It's a strong incentive for our young hockey players to become leaders among their peers, on and off the ice."
Students can apply at www.kitchenerrangers.com and fill out the online application form. Each applicant must meet the following criteria:
Must be a 2007-2008 registered player in Minor Hockey or High School Hockey
Must be a Grade 12 student graduating in June 2008
Must be planning full-time attendance at an accredited Canadian University or College starting no later than September 2008
Must have a minimum 70% (B) average at mid-term in Grade 12
No game misconduct penalties during the current season.
The contest closes January 15, 2008.
In addition to the Kitchener Rangers, RBC is also partnering with the Guelph Storm, the Oshawa Generals, the Peterborough Petes, the Niagara Ice Dogs, the Belleville Bulls, the Barrie Colts, the Kingston Frontenacs and the Sarnia Sting.
