Rochester RazorSharks News Release
(Rochester, N.Y.) - The Rochester RazorSharks of the American Basketball Association finished up the first half of their inaugural season on Saturday afternoon at The Blue Cross Arena with an impressive 135-82 win over the Baltimore Pearls. The win was the RazorSharks seventh in a row and their 11th in the last 12 games, helping the team improve to 15-3 on the season and first place in the Connie Hawkins Division.
Aside from success on the court, the RazorSharks are also showing results at the box office, leading the ABA in attendance. In 11 home games at The Blue Cross Arena this season, the team has averaged 2,960 fans per game. This includes Saturday afternoon's tilt, which attracted 4,135 fans, the second largest home crowd of the season. Forward Brian Edwards has filled in for leading scorer James Reaves (foot stress fracture) by averaging 15 points per game in the three games since Reaves was lost. The RazorSharks travel to Montreal on Friday, January 20 to take on the Matrix, who are 8-9 on the season, at 7:00 p.m. The road game at NE Penn in Scranton, originally scheduled for this Saturday, has been cancelled. The RazorSharks next home game is set for Thursday, January 26 at 705 p.m. against the Buffalo Rapids at the BCA.
ABA NEWS - The league has begun the process of selecting teams for the February 11th ABA All-Star Game at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida by announcing the head coaches for both teams, both former NBA players. Greg Graham, head coach of the undefeated Indiana Alley Cats (18-0) will coach the East All-Stars, while Gary Grant, owner and head coach of the Southern California Legends (15-2) will lead the West All-Star squad. Assistant coaches are expected to be named on Wednesday and players will begin to be announced at the end of the week.
Note: OurSports Central no longer actively covers the American Basketball Association (ABA) as a professional league due in part to its inability to publish and play a schedule and the transitory nature of many of its teams.
