Rochester RazorSharks News Release
(Rochester, NY) - The defending American Basketball Association champion Rochester RazorSharks announced today the signing of 6'3" guard Demond Stewart and 6'8" forward Brian Edwards, both who starred for last season's championship team. Stewart and Edwards were the only two players who played in all 30 regular season and four playoff games for the RazorSharks in their inaugural campaign.
"Demond was our most efficient player the last half of the season", said RazorSharks Head Coach Rod Baker. "He made the most out of every opportunity and I look forward to him taking on more scoring this coming season. Brian filled an important role when James Reaves was injured up front last season, and he has worked hard over the summer so we will depend on him more for front court toughness."
Rochester native Demond Stewart was tied for third with Keith Friel in scoring during the regular season last year, averaging 15.6 points per game. Stewart also averaged 3.9 rebounds per game, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals. He led the RazorSharks in playoff scoring with an 18.3 average, including a team-high 27 points in the 117-114 win over the Southern California Legend in the ABA championship game.
Stewart starred at Greece Olympia High School and went on to play at Niagara University, where he was the MAAC Conference Player of the Year in 2000-2001. The 29 year-old also played in The Netherlands, Belgium and Latvia in Europe during his four-year professional career.
Edwards, a native of Detroit, Michigan, averaged 8.1 points per game off the bench for Rochester and contributed 3.9 rebounds per game. He has played previously in the ABA for Detroit, St. Louis and Cincinnati. Edwards has also played in Mexico, Argentina and France.
Edwards worked in the RazorSharks front office this past summer, selling team sponsorships, making appearances on behalf of the club and assisting in ticket sales, marketing and promotions.
