Rayz close eighth season in Coastal Bend

Laredo, TX - The Corpus Christi Rayz closed their 2005-2006 season with a 6-1 loss to the Laredo Bucks on Sunday afternoon. In their final of 13 meetings this season, the Bucks rode a four-goal second period to the victory. The Rayz closed the season with a final record of 22-36-6. The Rayz would like to thank all of their season ticket holders, fans and sponsors for their support this year. We look forward to seeing you back on the ice in October for the ninth Rayz season in Corpus Christi.

A wide open first period featured each team putting up 18 shots and scoring on a power play goal. Laredo struck first on the man advantage from Serge Dube. Dube camped out at the left side of the net and converted a Jeff Bes feed on the power play at 4:35 of the frame. Dube's goal was his first since January 20th and gave the Bucks a 1-0 lead. The Rayz answered on a man advantage when Chris Robertson won a faceoff back to Tim Laurila where the defenseman shot it past David Lemanowicz at 8:48 to tie the game at one. It was Laurila's third straight game with a goal. Brent Zelenewich and Lemanowicz both made 17 saves in the opening period.

In the second period the Bucks opened up for four goals to take control of the game. With the score tied 1-1, Ryan Carter was stoned on a breakaway by Lemanowicz. Seconds later, Ladislav Kouba had a breakaway for the Bucks and buried a shot from the bottom of the slot at 6:56. The Bucks made it 3-1 at 14:57 when Brent Cullaton took a pass from behind the net and scored his 20th goal of the season. The Bucks kept the pressure on when Chris Grenville scored on a one-timer from the right point at 16:26 to make the score 4-1. Frantisek Lukes then capped the four goal period at 18:56 with his fifth of the season. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 17-9 in the period.

Nick Warriner scored the lone goal of the third period at 9:13 to complete the game scoring.

The Rayz ended the season with a record of 22-36-6 for 50 points on the year. They finished their home record at 10-17-5 and road record at 12-19-1. The Bucks finished their season with a Southern Conference leading 43-15-6 record for 92 points. Their home record ended at 27-4-1. Zelenewich made 37 saves and played well with an onslaught of Bucks chances against, but took the loss ending his season record at 7-18-2. Lemanowicz stopped 30 shots to earn the victory, vaulting his record to 18-5-3. The Bucks outshot the Rayz 43-31. The Rayz went 1-3 on the power play and the Bucks went 2-6. The Rayz closed the season series with the Bucks scoring points in five of their final eight meetings. Laredo closed the season winning seven of their final eight games.

Sunday's game concluded the Rayz eighth professional hockey season in Corpus Christi. The Rayz would like to thank all of their season ticket holders, sponsors and fans for another great year.
