Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, VA - The Danville Braves dropped the third game of the series to the Princeton Rays to lose the series 2-1. The bats were working for the P-Rays as they accumulated 19 hits, which is the most surrendered by Braves pitching this year.

Princeton's bats were on fire tonight as they score 12 runs to Danville's 1. Princeton started things off with three runs in the top of the third inning. The inning started with Zac Law's bloop single into left center field. Landon Cray would then walk to put runners on first and second base with Rays designated hitter David Olmedo-Barrera on deck. Barrera would single to right field to load the bases for Rays Catcher David Rodriguez. Rodriguez would single and score Law and Cray to give the Rays a 2-0 lead. The Rays would add another run, as Kewby Meyer smashed a RBI single to right field scoring Rodriguez to make the score 3-0 Rays after three innings.

Rays added a run in the top of the fourth on a fielders choice by Barrera that scored Law to put the Rays ahead 4-0. Three more runs would be added in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 7-0 after six innings. In the top of the sixth inning for the Rays, Peter Marris would single to left field to lead off the inning. Cray would then single to right center field to put runners on first and second for the Rays. Rays third baseman Brett Sullivan would then get the bat and deliver a one out double to right field scoring Maris to add to the Rays lead to make it 5-0. Rays would add two more runs as Rodriguez delivered yet again for the Rays with a two RBI single to center field making the score 7-0.

Danville would score its only run in the bottom of the seventh inning to avoid the shutout. Braves third baseman Austin Riley would double to right field to lead things off for the D-Braves and would later score on a wild pitch.

And to add on to their lead the Rays scored five runs in the top of the ninth to take a 12-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth inning as the rain began to pour down on American Legion Post 325 field. The game was then called before the start of the ninth inning.

Tomorrow the Braves will look to rebound as they welcome the Pulaski Yankees into town for a three game series. On the mound for the Braves will be first round pick, right hander Mike Soroka. Soroka did not give up a run in four innings pitched in his debut with Danville at Bristol. Soroka also struck out six batters in that appearance. On the mound for the Yankees will be right hander Drew Finley. Game time is scheduled for 7 pm and it is also our second military appreciation night. All active and Retired military will receive free general admission with valid Military ID.
