WICHITA FALLS, TX - The Corpus Christi IceRays trailed 3-0 after two periods, but stormed back with three straight to goals to force overtime for the third game this season. In a shootout though, the Wildcats prevailed, picking up the extra point and a 4-3 win.
The Wildcats drew first blood in the game. Kyle Bauman split the IceRays defenders just 37 seconds into the game and beat Jett Salinas for a 1-0 lead.
Trevor Heuser picked up a roughing minor at the 10:44 mark of the first period. While on the power-play, Eliot Grauer beat Salinas for his first of the game and the Wildcats took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission.
Corpus Christi gained some momentum on the power-play in period two, however, it was Wichita Falls capitalizing. Eliot Grauer picked up a turnover and notched his second goal of the game for a 3-0 lead at the 14:27 point of period two.
Like they have done all season, the IceRays came back and it started with Travis Maxwell on a shot from the point that solved net minder Evan Cowley to pull Corpus Christi within two goals.
After two periods, the IceRays trailed 3-1 and needed to get to work in the third. Early in the period, Ian McGilvrey ripped a shot on the power-play past Cowley, assisted by Roisum and Sulmonte 1:32 into the final frame to get within a goal.
Less than one minute later, Jalen Schulz scooped up a loose puck in the slot, and went top shelf on Cowley to tie the game at three.
After no scoring in the overtime period, it would be decided by a shootout. In the shootout after four rounds nobody scored. Joey Sundgren was the final shooter and went in to deke, lost the puck, that then went between the legs of Salinas for the win.
The IceRays are in action as well tomorrow night against the Wichita Falls Wildcats. Puck drops at 7:15PM, coverage begins at 7:00PM with the IceRays Pregame Show on 91.1FM KSGR.
