Johnstown Tomahawks News Release
JOHNSTOWN, Pa. - The Johnstown Tomahawks are proud to announce the First Annual Guns & Hoses Charity Game to be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 following the Tomahawks 7:00 p.m. matchup against the Janesville Jets. The event, which will honor our local heroes in the Greater Johnstown community, is an exhibition game between members of local police, fire, and EMS departments and is free and open to the public.
Throughout the Tomahawks game, volunteers and representatives from multiple local departments will sell Chuck-a-Pucks and 50/50 tickets, the proceeds of which will benefit Special Olympics Pennsylvania-Cambria County. Also going to the charity will be $1 from each ticket sold to groups of 10 or more who purchase seats in the Sideline and Endzone areas by calling the Tomahawks office (814-536-4625).
Kevin Schrock, a captain with the Johnstown Fire Department who has been instrumental in coordinating the event, looks forward to the game, saying, "We are excited to work with the Tomahawks to support the Special Olympics. It's going to be a great time, and it's nice to see everyone come together for a good cause."
Special Olympics Director of Development for Western Pennsylvania Kraig Makohus said all funds will benefit the nearly 100 Special Olympics athletes in the local area.
"We've been working with the Johnstown area for almost 40 years now," Makohus said. "The Johnstown Police Department has helped us with our goal of partnering with local law enforcement, with whom we've been growing a relationship over the last several years. And, we're excited to partner with the Tomahawks now that hockey is back in Johnstown."
Special Olympics Pennsylvania provides year-round training and competition in 22 Olympic-type sports to more than 20,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities or closely related developmental disabilities.
