Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League's North Division, are proud to announce the addition of defenseman, Donovan Gardiner.
Gardner, the 19-year-old, has been signed to beef up a blue line that has been hit with some early season injuries. Gardiner is no stranger to hockey at the Junior level, as he has been playing in Canadian leagues since 2009-10. Most recently, he opened the season with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. Last season, Gardiner played for both the Wellington Dukes, and the Hamilton Red Wings of the Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he racked up nine assists and 37 penalty minutes over the course of 32 games.
Gardiner, who hails from Sterling Heights, Michigan, is a right-handed shooting blue liner that was in fact tendered by Kalamazoo for the 2011-12 season, but opted to stay in the Canadian leagues. He is set to make his NAHL debut tonight, September 21st, against the Soo Eagles.
The Jr. K-Wings will hit the ice again on Friday, September 21st at 7:30 p.m. in Sault Saint Marie, as they take on the Soo Eagles in their first divisional contest of the season.
