Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Jamestown, NY - Of the eight contests that the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings and the Jamestown Ironmen played this year, five of them went to either overtime or a shootout. In their first meeting of the postseason, extra time would not be needed, as Jamestown controlled the entire game and cruised past Kalamazoo by the score of 7-1.
The first few minutes of the contest were controlled by Kalamazoo, but they were unable to score. Jamestown, however, was able to take advantage of their first good look of the game, as Tyler Dunagan (1st) scored on a rebound at 3:30 to give Jamestown the early 1-0 lead.
The woes of the Jr. K-Wings continued at 8:44 when Nathan Ropelewski (1st) scored a short handed goal. He found himself all alone of the breakaway and put it past Alex Okicki to put the Ironmen up 2-0.
Jamestown was not done scoring in the first period. At 10:47, there was absolute chaos in front of the Kalamazoo net, and it led to Ryan Doucet (1st) getting the unassisted score. This would be the last score of the period, and Kalamazoo went to the locker room trailing 3-0.
Unfortunately for the Jr. K-Wings, the second period was eerily similar to the first. Marcus Due-Boje replaced Okicki, but the Ironmen still found the back of the net three times. The first of those three goals came just 3:30 into the period, as Daniel Cesarz (1st) took advantage of the Dunagan pass for the score.
Cesarz would get his second point of the period on the very next Jamestown goal. He recorded the assist of the Brett Szajner (1st) goal at 11:42 that put Jamestown up 5-0.
Just 27 seconds after Szajner's goal, Evan Ritt (1st) was able to score and put the Jr. K-Wings in a 6-0 hole. This would be the score as the teams went to their respective locker rooms for the second intermission.
The third period started in the same way the other periods went: with a Jamestown goal. Jamestown extended their lead to 7-0 with Cesarz's second goal of the night.
With a little less than five minutes remaining, Luc Boby (3rd) finally got Kalamazoo on the board. That would be the final goal of the contest, and Jamestown would go on to win by the score of 7-1.
