Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings News Release
Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings, proud members of the North American Hockey League's North Division, announce the home schedule for the North Division Semi-Finals against the Jamestown Ironmen.
It was a less than ideal start to the second round of the playoffs for Kalamazoo, as they headed out to Jamestown, New York, to open the best of five second round against the Ironmen.
The opening game saw the Ironmen explode for seven goals, including two from former Jr. K-Wing Dan Cesarz, who also picked up an assist for a game high three points. Jamestown goalie and Kalamazoo native, Joe Ballmer was solid in the net for the home team, as he posted 33 saves while only allowing one goal which came off the stick of Luc Boby. However, it was far too little too late as the Jr. K-Wings were already down 7-0 at that point. Alex Okicki got the start in net for Kalamazoo, but surrendered three goals on 14 shots and was pulled in favor of Marcus Due-Boje. Due-Boje then played the last 40 minutes, while allowing four goals on 21 shots.
Game two was a bit tighter than the game one night earlier, and had a better start for Kalamazoo. Danny Hamburg got the scoring underway in the first, giving Kalamazoo a 1-0 lead. It was all Jamestown from there, as the Ironmen poured in three unanswered goals, en route to a 3-1 victory and a two games to none lead in the series.
The teams are back in Kalamazoo and are set to faceoff tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. at the Borgess Health Rink inside Wings West. The Jr. K-Wings are 2-0 on their home ice in the playoffs this year, as they look to win three consecutive games against Jamestown in order to advance to the North Division Final, a place where they met their match in Port Huron last year.
If necessary, Game 4 will also be in Kalamazoo, slated for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop on Thursday, April 18th. If the series requires a game five, it will be back at the Jamestown Savings Bank Arena on Sunday, April 21st at 5:00 p.m.
The winner of this series will head on to the North Divisoin finals and face the winner of the Soo Eagles and Port Huron Fighting Falcons.
