Central Islip, N.Y. - The Newark Bears defeated the Long Island Ducks 2-1 in 10 innings on Friday night in front of a past-capacity crowd of 6,208 at Suffolk County Sports Park.

Newark cracked the scoreboard in the third inning when Tim Raines, Jr. scored on a balk and error by Ducks' starter Randy Keisler. The score stayed the same until the seventh when Ray Navarrete laced a two-out RBI single to left to tie the score at one.

In the tenth, the Bears grabbed the lead back for good against Ducks' reliever Ivan Maldonado, as Brian Barton singled and came around to score on Daryle Ward's RBI double down the right field line.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Keisler fired seven innings, allowing one run on seven hits, with six strikeouts. Bears' starter Bob Zimmermann lasted six and two-thirds innings, yielding five hits and one run while striking out seven.

Michael Nix (3-2) picked up the win, tossing two and one-third innings of scoreless relief, allowing four hits with one strikeout. Maldonado (1-4) suffered the loss, surrendering two hits and one run in his one inning of work. Armando Benitez picked up his ninth save with a scoreless tenth inning.

Navarrete led the Ducks at the plate with three hits and a run batted in.
