
Raven, Lancers Rough Up 'Riders, 4-1

Ryan Raven scored a pair of goals in leading the Lancers past the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders 4-1, on Sunday, January 1st at the Mid-America Center. The second straight win for the Lancers was also the team's first victory against Cedar Rapids this season.
Raven opened the scoring in the first period with a power play goal, assisted by Chris Moran and Nick Schaus at 7:13 for a 1-0 lead. Phil Axtell answered for Cedar Rapids with a power play goal later in the period, but Robby Dee scored the eventual game winning goal at the 8:28 mark of the first frame, assisted by Matt Thurber and Brett Bruneteau, for a 2-1 Lancer lead after 20 minutes of play.
Bruneteau scored the only goal of the second period for the Lancers, his fifth of the season, at the 11:21 mark, assisted by Schaus and Robby Dee.
The Lancers added one more goal in the third period, as Raven notched his 11th goal of the year, assisted by Moran, at the 4:25 mark for the final score of 4-1.
Each team was 1-for-5 on the power play for the contest, and the Lancers out shot the RoughRiders 41-22. Winning goaltender Mike Spillane earned his 10th win of the year (10-4-0) with a one goal, 21 save effort. Pat McGann (5-2-2) took the loss for Cedar Rapids with a four goal, 37 save performance.
The Lancers have now won six straight home games, but will be heading on the road for the next four contests, beginning Friday, January 6th at Lincoln, followed by a Saturday, January 7th match up against the Tri-City Storm in Kearney.
