Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON - C Chad Rau scored two goals and added an assist for the first three-point game of his career while C Andy Hilbert (1-1=2) also registered a multi-point evening to lead the Houston Aeros (33-33-7-5) to a 5-3 victory over the San Antonio Rampage (34-32-5-7) in front of 8,432 at AT&T Center Thursday night. G Anton Khudobin (13-18-4) made 28 saves to improve to 5-2-1 against the Rampage this season. G Josh Tordjman (18-22-2) saved 18 of 23 shots faced in the loss.
The Aeros tested the lamp early when they broke into the Rampage zone 3-on-2. C Tony Hrkac dropped the puck off to RW Jon DiSalvatore at the blue line who found RW Danny Irmen on the door step for his 12th of the season at 1:52. San Antonio knotted the game at one goal apiece 18:09 in with a power play marker. RW Jared Staal fired the initial shot on net that rebounded out to the tape of C Joel Perrault who flicked a wrister top shelf for his 17th of the season. Staal earned his first career point with the assist.
After a scoreless middle session, the Aeros went back to work early in the third. RW Petr Kalus centered to a streaking RW Carson McMillan who banged it home for his third of the campaign 32 seconds in. Rau extended the Aeros lead at 5:34 when he took a centering pass from Hilbert and snapped a shot over the blocker of Tordjman.
D Shaun Heshka cut the deficit in half 15:29 into the third period, but Rau answered 46 seconds later when he batted home a loose puck off the glove of Tordjman for his 19th of the year and second of the night. Hilbert added a short-handed empty-net tally at 18:33 before Rampage D Mikkel Boedker closed out the scoring with 47 seconds remaining in regulation.
The Aeros went 0-for-3 on the power play while the Rampage scored two of their three goals on the man advantage finishing the night 2-for-5. San Antonio outshot the Aeros for just the second time this year 32-23.
