
Rattlers select Gavin Prout in MLL Supplemental Draft

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Rattlers selected midfielder Gavin Prout with the third overall pick in today's Major League Lacrosse Supplemental Draft. The Rattlers had 10 picks in the draft, which was held at 1:00 p.m. via a league conference call.
Prout spent three seasons in the MLL with the Baltimore Bayhawks (2001-02, 2005) and won a championship in 2005. In 27 games with the Bayhawks, he registered 21 goals and 20 assists in 27 games. The 28 year old was a First Team All-American at Loyola College in 2001 and honorable mention in 2000. This summer he was a member of the gold medal Canadian Team that won the World Lacrosse Championship.
The Whitby, Ontario, native has also made a name for himself in the indoor game. Last season, Prout was named the National Lacrosse League Championship Game Most Valuable Player as the Colorado Mammoth won their first title. He is a three-time NLL All-Pro, earning First Team honors in 2006 and Second Team accolades in 2002 and 2004. Prout has also played in the NLL All-Star Game in 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
The Rattlers selected attackman Joe High out of Salisbury University with the 13th overall pick in the draft. High recently won the Hawaii Lacrosse Invitational and was a teammate of current Rattler John Grant. High earned Division III First Team All-American honors in 2000 after earning Second Team status in 1999. He was a four-year letterman for the Sea Gulls who finished with 155 career goals, 52 assists and 207 total points.
In the third round, Rochester picked Jake Plunkett (23rd overall) and Chris Scanlon. Plunkett played midfield at Syracuse University from 2002-05 and won national championships in 2002 and 2004.
In the fourth round (33rd overall), Rochester picked goalie Scott Schroeder. The native of Summit, NJ, native enters his fifth season in the MLL. He spent three seasons with the New Jersey Pride (2003-05) and one with the Baltimore Bayhawks (2006). Last season he was 1-2 with a 16.90 goals-against average.
In the fifth round, the Rattlers went after Le Moyne attackman/midfielder Brandon Spillett. Spillett was named the Most Outstanding Player in the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championship game.
Rochester used its last selection (10th round, 93rd overall) to take RIT attackman David Thiering. In 2006, Thiering finished the season with 92 points (33+59) and led the Empire 8 in scoring. He also became RIT's all-time leading scorer with 293 career points (146+147), earning First Team All-American honors.
Rochester also retained the rights of attackman/midfielder Peter Milliman, defenseman Matt Vinc, and midfielders Chris Scanlon and Brice Queener.
