Arizona Rattlers News Release
MESA, Ariz. - Arizona Rattlers defensive back RILEY SWANSON was honored today as Defensive Player of the Week by the Arena Football League.
Swanson, who wins the league honor in his first-ever AFL game, was part of a four interception effort by the Rattlers defense against veteran QB John Dutton and the Cleveland Gladiators. Swanson's was the first pick of the game, which he returned 24 yards for a touchdown. The six points was the spark to the furious comeback that was capped by a 61-56 win in the league's opening week.
A rookie defensive back for Arizona in 2010, Swanson spent the 2009 season with the Rio Grande Valley Dorados of the arenafootball2 and helped the team to a playoff appearance. Swanson also has spent time with the Buffalo Bills (NFL, 2007) and the Montreal Alouettes (CFL, 2008). Swanson spent four seasons at Wake Forest, finishing fourth all-time in passes defensed with 33 and led his team with 14 interceptions as a senior. He led the Demon Deacons to an ACC Championship in 2006.
The Rattlers are on a bye this week. They return to action on Friday, April 16 in the team's home opener at USAirways Center. Kickoff is slated for 7:30pm.
