Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX - The Arizona Rattlers have activated wide receiver/defensive Corey Johnson from injured reserve and put wide receiver/defensive back Jeremiah Pope on injured reserve, head coach/general manager Gene Nudo announced today.
Johnson (5-9, 190 pounds), a two-way star coming off his most productive season in the AFL, enters his first season in Arizona and ninth overall. Last year, he spent his third season with the New York Dragons. He played a major role in the Dragon defense, recording 46 tackles while intercepting seven passes. Three of his seven interceptions came against the Rattlers when he picked Sherdrick Bonner off three times on February 27, 2005. The former All-Arena first-team defender also showcased his offensive talents with 24 catches for 303 yards and four touchdowns.
In his eight-year career, Johnson has recorded 51 catches for 551 yards and eight touchdowns. Defensively, he has tallied 392 tackles, 53 pass breakups, and 41 interceptions.
Pope, who will be on the injured list for at least two weeks per AFL rules, has 11 catches for 128 yards and a touchdown on the year. He also has three tackles and an interception.
In other moves, defensive specialist Art Smith was waived yesterday and wide receiver/defensive back Johnny Marshall was signed from the team's practice squad today.
The Rattlers, who are atop the Western Division, return home to take on the Chicago Rush at US Airways Center on Saturday, April 15. The contest, which is set to kick off at 7:00 p.m. PST, can be seen on OLN and heard on ESPN 860AM. Ticket packages can be purchased by calling 602-514-TDTD.
