Arizona Rattlers News Release

Phoenix, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers have signed lineman John Frank, the club announced today. The former University of Utah standout was named the 1999 Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1999, thanks to his 13 sacks and 20 tackles for loss. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Frank (6-4, 285) was a four-year letterman for the Utes, leaving as the school's all-time leader in quarterback sacks. During his collegiate career, Frank recorded 27 sacks and was named First Team All-MWC his junior and senior seasons. Following his stellar Utah career, the Philadelphia Eagles selected Frank in the 6th round of the 2000 NFL Draft.

"John is a player that our staff has had their eyes on since day one of the off-season," said Head Coach Todd Shell. "I really believe he is the type of impact player that can get pressure on the quarterback. I think he is capable of putting up big numbers for us, and that's why he was one of our top targets in free agency."

His senior season of 1999 he recorded 56 total tackles to go along with his 13 sacks and 20 tackles for loss. He also added an interception on his way to being named the Defensive Player of the Year in the conference. For his Ute career, Frank recorded 124 total tackles.

The 14th season of Arena Football at America West Arena kicks off on Thursday, February 3rd when the Rattlers play host to the Orlando Predators. For ticket information call 602-514-TDTD or log on to www.AZRattlers.com.
