Arizona Rattlers News Release

Phoenix, AZ - The Arizona Rattlers announced today that they have signed Wide Receiver/Defensive Back Evan Hlavacek to a contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. A five-year veteran out of San Diego, Hlavacek had spent his entire career with the Albany/Indiana Firebirds organization.

"This is a great signing for this organization," said Rattlers GM Gene Nudo. "With Evan, we are getting an established star in this league, a former ArenaBowl Champion, and a great, great player. He makes us a lot better."

In 2004, Hlavacek recorded 30 tackles and two interceptions, plus caught 31 passes for 436 yards and eight touchdowns. He also returned kicks, running back 34 Kickoffs for 677 yards and two touchdowns, in addition to seven Missed Field Goals for 159 yards and a score.

A versatile player, Hlavacek can play WR/DB or DS, and is also a gifted kick returner. Evan earned All-AFL Second Team honors in 2003, thanks to his 62 tackles and ten pass break-ups, and 15 catches for 204 yards and five touchdowns. He was also named to the All-Ironman squad that season. Over his five year career, Hlavacek has recorded 234 tackles, nine interceptions, and 43 pass break-ups. He helped lead the Firebirds to the 1999 ArenaBowl championship. He has returned 12 kicks for scores in his career, and has amassed over 4,000 all-purpose yards.

"I am ecstatic to add a player of Evan's caliber to our squad," said Head Coach Todd Shell. "Anytime you can add an All-Arena performer and an All-Ironman guy, you instantly make yourself better."

The Arizona Rattlers will kick off their 14th season in January 2005. For ticket information call 602-514-TDTD or log on to www.AZRattlers.com.
