Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Three Wisconsin Timber Rattler pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout of the Burlington Bees on Tuesday night. Brett Lawrie drove in both Wisconsin runs in the 2-0 victory. The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Timber Rattlers. This was also the first shutout toss by Rattler pitching in 2009.
Wisconsin (10-14) grabbed a 1-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Brett Lawrie crushed a 2-0 offering from Burlington starter Manauris Baez deep to left. The homer was Lawrie's fourth of the season.
Lawrie put the Rattlers up 2-0 with a two-out RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Timber Rattler starter Michael Bowman pitched the first four innings and allowed three hits while walking one and striking out three. Daniel Meadows, who came on in the top of the fifth, did not allow a hit and walked one in four innings out of the Timber Rattler bullpen. Meadows would pick up his team-leading third win of the season with his performance.
Rattler closer Jim Henderson worked a perfect ninth inning to remain perfect in seven save opportunities.
Burlington (7-17) only had two runners on base once in the game and saw their team batting average drop to .200 on the season.
Game two of the series is Wednesday night. Wisconsin has Cody Scarpetta (0-1, 4.70) as the scheduled starting pitcher. Kelvin Herrera will be making his first appearance of the season for the Bees. Game time is 6:35pm.
