Kernels strand twelve in 3-1 loss at South Bend

May 5, 2009 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels had ten hits but stranded 12 base runners in a 3-1 loss to the South Bend Silver Hawks on Tuesday night in South Bend. Tyson Auer, Roberto Lopez and Angel Castillo each had two his, but the Kernels were 1 for 13 with runners in scoring position, that being an RBI single by Lopez to score Auer.

Kernels starter Tyler Chatwood (1-1) allowed two runs on five hits and struck out three over five innings in taking the loss. South Bend starter Wade Miley (1-1) allowed an unearned run on seven hits and struck out seven over 6.2 innings and T.J. Hose shut down the Kernels in the ninth for his second save.

Alexi Amarista and Jon Townsend each had a double and Amarista stole his 11th base of the year.

Game two between the Silver Hawks and Kernels is Wednesday evening at 5:30 pm from Coveleski Regional Stadium in South Bend. John Rodgers brings you the action on the radio home of Kernels baseball, 1450 KMRY Radio. Fans may listen on-line at www.kmryradio.com , or www.kernels.com .

The Kernels return home to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Tuesday, May 12 and open a four game series with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
