Arizona Rattlers News Release
PHOENIX - The Arizona Rattlers of the Arena Football League have re-signed two of their own free agents along with another pair, general manager/head coach Gene Nudo announced today.
The Rattlers re-signed offensive/defensive lineman Vince Amey and kicker Gary Kral to one-year contracts. They also added veteran offensive/defensive lineman Wendell Davis and free agent wide receiver/defensive back Talib Wise.
Amey (6-foot-2, 310 pounds), who is entering his sixth AFL season, appeared in 11 games for the Rattlers in 2005, making nine tackles (two and a half for losses), a sack, and a safety. On offense, he made one reception for three yards. In his career, Amey has recorded 23 tackles (four and a half for losses), one sack, and five receptions.
"Vince has been great for us the last couple of seasons," said Nudo. "He has provided depth for our front line and has built chemistry with our other returnees."
Davis (5-11, 180), who was a sixth round selection of the Dallas Cowboys in the 1996 NFL draft, will be entering his fifth AFL season. He played four seasons with the San Jose SaberCats, including a brief stint with the Grand Rapids Rampage. Davis has tallied 142 and a half tackles, three interceptions, four pass breakups, and recovered four fumbles in his career.
"We think (Davis) has the potential to become a starter in this league," said Nudo.
Kral (6-0, 175) began his AFL career with the Buffalo Destroyers in 2003. He spent the final nine weeks of the season with Buffalo, connecting on 4-of-20 field goals, connecting on 23-of-32 extra points. He was a member of the New York Dragons in 2004, making 50% of his field goals (6-12), and was 79-of-92 on extra point attempts. In 2005, Kral was 3-for-18 on field goals and 39-of-48 on PAT's with the Nashville Kats before joining Arizona, where he was 1-of-2 on field goals and 33-of-39 on PAT's.
Wise (5-10, 200), who will be entering his first AFL season, was standout running back and return specialist at Joliet (Ill.) Junior College and the University of Nevada. The undrafted rookie was one of the Chicago Bears final cuts before the start of the 2005 season.
"We feel Wise has great potential," said Nudo. "He was extremely close to making an NFL roster this year."
The Rattlers will kick off their 15th season in the 20-year-old Arena Football League in January of 2006. Rattler season tickets, which include all eight games played at America West Arena, can be purchased by calling 602-514-8300.
