Rats Fall In Bridgeport

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Justin DiBenedetto scored two goals and added an assist as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers defeated the Albany River Rats 4-1 Sunday afternoon at the Arena at Harbor Yard.

Sound Tigers special teams accounted for three straight goals in the second and third periods and goaltender Nathan Lawson took care of the rest with 36 saves in the contest, including 16 in the third period. River Rats forwards Drayson Bowman and Zach Boychuk both saw third period shots ring off of the post as Albany failed to sermount a late comeback.

Bridgeport's penalty kill notched the eventual game-winner at 7:31 of the middle frame, when assistant captain Greg Moore found Sean Bentivoglio all alone in front of the net for a close-range tap-in to make it 2-1. The Sound Tigers power play set-up the next two markers, both from DiBenedetto on the back door for the 4-1 final.

Bridgeport's Tomas Marcinkio scored the game's first goal at 7:12 of the first period, but Albany's Nick Dodge responded 33 ticks into the second. Drayson Bowman set-up Dodge's third of the year with a late backhand pass across the crease to cap-off a 2-on-1 rush.

Sound Tigers goalie Nathan Lawson stopped 36-of-37 shots and earned the win as Bridgeport improved to 6-4-0-0 on the year. Albany goaltender Mike Murphy turned-aside 28-of-32 shots faced and took the loss as the River Rats fell to 5-4-0-0 this season. Albany out-shot the Sound Tigers 37-32 and went 0-for-6 on the power play; Bridgeport was 2-for-6 with the man-advantage.

Albany returns to action on Friday, October 30th when the host the Springfield Falcons in a 7:00 p.m. faceoff at the Times Union Center.
