
Rascals Win Streak Ends at Six

O'Fallon, MO - The Rascals (31-25) fell 5-4 to the Schaumburg Boomers (24-32) on Wednesday, July 22 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. The Rascals snapped their six-game win streak.
RHP Tim Koons started and received a no-decision for the Rascals. He tossed 7.0 innings and allowed just three runs, two earned, and four hits. He struck out three batters and retired the final 15 batters he faced.
Schaumburg took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Mike Schulze walked, and Jordan Dean doubled to begin the game. Craig Massey hit an RBI infield single, and Justin Vasquez drove home a run on a groundout.
The Rascals tied the game in the bottom of the inning. CF Curran Redal and LF Brian Hansen each singled to open the inning. After a bunt, 3B Taylor Ard hit a two run single. He is now third in the league with 44 RBI.
The Boomers plated another run in the third inning. Massey reached on a SS Josh Silver fielding error to begin the inning. After a single put men on the corners, Vasquez hit an RBI sac fly to centerfield.
The Rascals scored twice and took the lead in the bottom of the third. 1B Zach Kometani drew a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a single by Redal. He then scored on a wild pitch, and Redal moved to second base. Silver followed with an RBI single, giving the Rascals their first lead.
The Rascals used five pitchers in the eighth inning but surrendered their lead. RHP Zac Treece began the inning and surrendered a single to Dean, the only man he faced. RHP Derek Cape (L, 2-2) entered the game; he surrendered a hit to Massey and induced a shallow fly out. LHP Stephen Frey came into the game next and walked Vasquez, the only man he faced, to load the bases. After RHP Will Schierholz struck out the only batter he faced, RHP Zeb Sneed entered the game with two outs and the bases loaded. T.J. Bennett then singled home two runs and gave the Boomers a 5-4 lead. Sneed struck out the final four batters he faced.
Schaumburg starter Breet Mabry did not factor into the decision. He allowed four runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings. Hideyoshi Otake (W, 4-2) tossed the final 2.2 innings and ceded just two hits.
The Rascals and Schaumburg Boomers complete their three-game series on Thursday, July 23 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
