River City Rascals News Release

River City returns the favor to Evansville by scoring 11 in game two of the series and winning by a final score of 11-3. Starter Jose Samayoa was also able to pitch 5.0 innings and acquire his second victory in as many appearances.

A night after a tough 13-1 loss to the East's number one team, the Evansville Otters, Brook sent Jose Samayoa to the mound for his first start as a River City Rascal. After scoring only one run in the first game of the series, River City looked to turn things around at the plate.

After the Rascals had gone eight straight games without a pitcher making it through six or more innings, Samayoa needed to have a solid night on the mound. He would start off the night on a high note, retiring three of four batters in the top of the first to keep the Otters scoreless through one.

The Rascals then quickly got back to their offensive ways by scoring the first run of the ballgame in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by designated hitter Joe Staley; but they didn't stop there, as they added two more insurance runs on a bases-loaded, RBI walk issued to rightfielder Evan Crawford and a fielder's choice groundout hit into by second-baseman Hector Crespo- making it 3-0 Rascals after one.

Samayoa then retook the mound in the top of the second to once again keep the Otters off the board before River City stranded two runners of their own aboard in the bottom of the inning- leaving the score 3-0 River City heading into the third.

Following the bottom of the first, neither team would score again until the bottom of the fourth when the Rascals added two more on a two-out, two-run double off the bat of catcher Saxon Butler- pushing the River City lead to five after four in O'Fallon.

The Otters wouldn't remain silent any longer however, as they cut the deficit to four with a lead-off home run in the top of the fifth thanks to catcher Kolin Conner. Evansville would then add another run in the fifth on a two-out RBI single by Nick Balog to make it 5-2 River City after four and a half.

Brook's offense wouldn't waste much time in getting a run back in the bottom of the fifth, as they added another on an RBI fielder's choice hit into by rookie Blaise Fernandez- putting the Rascals back up by four after five at T.R. Hughes Ballpark.

Jose Samayoa's night was then complete after five, as he gave way to reliever Chandler Jagodzinski. Samayoa made it through five innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking one. Jose stood to be the winning pitcher of the ballgame upon his exit.

Brian McConkey would soon put an end to starter Conor Kerin's night, blasting a two-out, two-run bomb over the rightfield monster to make it 8-2 River City. Kerin was then pulled after pitching 5.2 innings, allowing eight runs- four earned- on six hits while striking out three and walking a massive seven batters.

The pendulum scoring continued in the top of the seventh, as the Otters brought the score within five courtesy of a lead-off solo shot by centerfielder John Schultz. The pendulum then swung back to the side of River City as they scored two more in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double off the bat of Blaise Fernandez and an RBI groundout hit into by Saxon Butler- making it 10-3 Rascals after seven.

An RBI single, in conclusion of a 12-pitch at-bat for Steve Carrillo, then made the score 11-3 River City after eight. A fun moment in the ninth followed, as with the Rascals on top 11-3, newly signed right-handed pitcher, Ethan Bader, made his professional debut in a Rascals uniform. Bader threw a shutout inning and gave the Rascals an 11-3 win in game two. The win in the game went to starter Jose Samayoa- his second in River City- with the loss going to opposing starter and rookie, Conor Kerins.

Come out and catch game three of the series tomorrow night with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm CT. Purchase Tickets by visiting www.rivercityrascals.com or by calling (636)-240-BATS.
