Rascals Outgun Otters in Game 2
August 11, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
River City Rascals News Release
River City took a 10-4 pounding Saturday in the first game of their three-game set with Evansville. But they rebounded nicely Sunday, paying back the Otters by crushing them 11-4.
Kyle Brady went to the mound to start for the Rascals. He was opposed by Edgar Lopez, a 25-year-old righty making his professional debut. Neither starter was particularly sharp. Lopez would only last two innings, giving up three runs and passing out six walks. Brady would last into the third but not escape it, surrendering three runs on five hits.
The game was tied at three apiece heading into the sixth, when the Rascals got a rally going that culminated with a gutsy squeeze bunt by Hector Crespo to score Joe Staley from third. It was Crespo's twenty-third RBI of the season. His perfect bunt down the left side off Evan Mott made the game 4-3.
The Rascals would get a good measure of insurance in the bottom of the seventh from the bat of Brian McConkey. The Rascal DH blasted a three-run homer off of Anthony Collazo to make it 7-3. The long homerun cleared the fence in right by a considerable distance and scored Saxon Butler and John Myers. It was McConkey's eleventh homer of the season.
The Rascals continued to pour it on in the eighth. Johnny Morales and Saxon Butler smacked back-to-back 2-RBI doubles off reliever Brandon Shimo in that frame to bust the game open even further.
Trey Lambert, who pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball in relief of Brady, got the win. Mott, who pitched a considerably uglier 2 1/3 of his own, took the loss. The Evansville reliever gave up three runs on three hits to the energized Rascals late in the game. Six different Raskies, including Crespo, McConkey, Morales, Butler, Eric Williams, and Steve Carrillo, recorded RBI in the game. Carrillo finished with three hits in the game to pace the team.
With the win, River City moved to 45-29 on the season. They close out their series in Evansville on Monday. The rubber match will begin at 6:35 pm.
