Sauget, IL - The Rascals (17-12) dropped their series finale with the Gateway Grizzlies (9-21) 3-2 in 10 innings on Thursday, June 18 at GCS Ballpark. The Rascals are now 2-2 in extra innings and 2-4 against the Grizzlies.
RHP Lucas Laster made his professional debut for the Rascals. He came within one out of a complete game shutout, but ended the night with a no-decision. With a 2-0 lead and two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Laster surrendered back-to-back homeruns to Blake Brown and Madison Beaird to tie the game. He finished the night with one walk and 10 strikeouts. He surrendered five walks over 8.2 innings.
The Grizzlies walked of in the 10th inning. The international tiebreaker rule placed Richard Seigel on second base with no outs, and he advanced to third base on a ground. Following a walk, a wild pitch by RHP Zeb Sneed (L, 2-1) allowed Seigel to score the winning run.
The Rascals took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. After Gateway starter Tyler Thompson retired the first eight batters of the game, RF Saxon Butler singled to left field. CF Curran Redal then drove him in from first base on a double.
LF Brian Hansen led off the sixth inning with a solo homer, his first of the season, to double the Rascals lead.
RHP Chandler Jagodzinski and LHP Anthony Ferrara each pitched 0.2 inning out of the bullpen.
Thompson tossed 6.1 innings and did not receive a decision. He surrendered two runs, four hits, and two walks. Brett Zawacki (W, 2-1) struck out three batters in 1.2 inning. Seth Harkin tossed 2.2 scoreless innings, and Jordan Sechler added 0.1 inning.
