Rascals Continue Dominance Over Grizzlies

River City Rascals News Release


O'FALLON, MO - The Rascals continued their dominance over Gateway, topping the Grizzlies 7-2 in seven rain shortened innings at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. River City is now 5-0 this season against Gateway.

The Rascals (11-6) took control of the contest with four runs in the fourth, all coming with two outs. Ryan Wehrle led off with a double and Pete Paris singled, his first professional hit, to give the Rascals runners at first and second with one out. After Andy Reilly flew out to right, Scott Houin singled home Wehrle for a 2-0 lead. River City continued the two out hitting binge with a RBI double from Kevin Reynolds and a two-run single from Chris Colton for a 5-0 advantage.

The Grizzlies (6-11) chipped away with two runs in the seventh on a Chad Rothford two run home run to right center field to cut into the Rascals lead at 6-2. It was the closest Gateway would get.

Jake Laber (3-1) was dominant on the mound, retiring 15 straight batters at one point. Laber went the full seven innings and struck out nine while allowing only four hits and two runs.

River City jumped out in the first off Joel Boeschen (0-2), scoring a single tally. Reynolds was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a double off Scott Robinson's bat for a 1-0 lead.

Boeschen went 5.1 innings in the loss, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned) with four strikeouts and two walks.

Wehrle stayed hot at the plate, going 3-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Reynolds and Colton each drove in two runs.

Charlie Lisk was 2-3 for Gateway with a run scored and Rothford finished 1-3 with the home run.

The Rascals and Grizzlies will wrap up a quick two game series tomorrow at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 p.m. with a 6:45 p.m. pre-game show on www.kfns.com.
