Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Tennessee Valley Raptors have added some size to their defensive line as they prepare for the final stretch of the 2005 United Indoor Football season.
Raptors coach Dick Adams announced Thursday that he had signed former Vanderbilt defensive tackle Matt Clay, a four-year letterwinner for the Commodores who made a career-high nine starts in 2004.
"Matthew is an experienced noseguard who played in the SEC and he gives us a big body up front that I don't think other teams will be able to drive out of the way,'' Adams said.
"He's worked hard the last couple of days and has used his hands well. I think he'll be able to control the center of our defense for us up on the line with Pat Billngs, Greg Cole and Anthony Harris. He should be able to handle the run up the middle by himself with a little help from one of our linebackers."
Clay (6-foot-1, 302 pounds) made 20 career starts for Vanderbilt and had 28 tackles, one quarterback sack, three tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and a pair of quarterback hurries as a senior last season. He finished his career with 76 tackles, eight tackles for loss and seven quarterback hurries.
The Raptors (4-7) play at Lexington (8-4) on Saturday. Kickoff at Rupp Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on 730-AM WUMP.
