
Rapidz slow down Skyhawks

AUGUSTA, N.J. - *The Ottawa Rapidz strung together five consecutive hits and four runs in the top of the fifth inning to propel them to a 5-2 victory over the Sussex Skyhawks on Wednesday night at Skylands Park.
Ottawa starter Tanner Watson limited the Skyhawks to just two runs (one earned) on four hits in eight innings. Watson walked two and struck out eight to pick up his first win of the season. Angelo Burrows (four saves) picked up the save for the Rapidz. The Ottawa win also snapped the Skyhawks'(20-18) four-game winning streak.
Jared Lemieux went two for five with two runs scored, and Jereme Milons was two for four with two RBI for Ottawa.
The Rapidz (11-26) began the fifth inning with three single and two doubles. Trailing 2-0, Felix Escalona singled to right, driving in Lemieux to cut the Sussex lead to 2-1. Jabe Bergeron followed with an RBI-double off the wall in center to tie the game 2-2. Milons then launched a double to right, scoring Escalona and Bergeron, and giving the Rapidz a 4-2 lead.
Lemieux extended the Rapidz' lead to 5-2 in the top of the sixth with a solo home run to right.
The two teams return to action at Skylands Park on Thursday for the final game of the three-game series. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., and there will be fireworks at the conclusion of the game.
The Skyhawks will also host a special Fourth of July Fireworks Night after Friday's game against Nashua.
