American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release

(Nashua, N.H., July 2, 2008) Atlantic City Surf starting pitcher Adam Cox (4-2) flirted with a no-hitter, as the Surf completed a three game sweep of the Pride, 3-2, at Historic Holman Stadium on Wednesday night.

Cox was dominant, not allowing a hit until the lead off batter in the bottom of the eighth inning, Jack Joffrion, who grounded an infield single off of the plate to break up the no-hit bid. Cox went seven plus innings, giving up on run, on one hit, three walks and 12 strikes outs. Reliever Walker Whitley earned his second save in as many nights, pitching an inning and two-thirds to finish the game.

The Surf got all they would need in the fifth inning, scoring all three runs in the frame. First baseman Eddie Kim led the way, finishing the night 2-for-2 with an RBI and a pair of walks. Right fielder Josh Burrus also had an RBI, he went 1-for-3 adding a stolen base and a run scored.

Nashua starter Jarrett Stawarz (3-2) suffered the loss, lasting six innings, giving up three runs, on four hits, three walks and three strike outs. Relievers German Melendez and Adam Piechowski combined to throw three scoreless innings behind him. Piechowski struck out the side in order in the ninth.

The Pride scored both its runs in the eighth inning, as Ismael Castro recorded the lone RBI of the game on a fielder's choice. Joffrion, catcher Chris Torres, and left fielder Dennis Abreu recorded the only hits for Nashua (one each); Abreu's being a double in the ninth.

The Pride travel to Worcester, Massachusetts for the first time this season and face the Tornadoes on Thursday night, at 7:05pm, when Jason Paul (0-1) is scheduled to make his first start of 2008 for the Pride.

The Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club, entering its 11th season, provides a fun, affordable, community-based and fan-friendly source of sports entertainment. The 2007 Can-Am League Champions will be participating in its third year of play in the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball.
