
Rapids Unified Team Kicked off Season with Win over Real Salt Lake's Unified Team

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids Unified Team kicked off their 2023 season with a 1-0 win over the Real Salt Lake Unified Team on Saturday night at DICK'S Sporting Goods Park.
Rapids players Cole Bassett, Diego Rubio and Lalas Abubakar, along with members of the club's coaching staff, were on hand to support and cheer on the Rapids Unified squad as Louis Persico scored the game-winner in the final minutes of play.
Entering its 11th season, the Rapids Unified Team features players both with and without intellectual disabilities between the ages of 16 and 25. The program not only provides Special Olympics athletes with top-level training and competitive experiences, but also offers MLS fans an opportunity to witness the talents and abilities of Special Olympics Colorado soccer players firsthand.
In addition to Real Salt Lake, the Rapids Unified Team will face off against the Unified Teams of MLS sides Orlando City SC on June 10 (away) and the LA Galaxy on June 24 (home), as well as the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC Unified Team on Aug. 4 (away) and Sept. 20 (home).
