
Rapids to Face Opponents from Mexico, Honduras and El Salvador in CONCACAF Champions League

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (Thursday, August 4, 2011) - The Colorado Rapids learned their opponents for the CONCACAF Champions League Group Stage on Wednesday night, as Preliminary Round matches were played to determine the final two teams in Group B. Santos Laguna of Mexico and Isidro Metapán of El Salvador won Preliminary matches, joining automatic qualifiers Real España of Honduras and the Rapids in the four-team group.
The Rapids, who qualified for the tournament as a result of winning the 2010 MLS Cup, start play in the Champions League against Isidro Metapán on Wednesday, August 17 at 8:00 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, with tickets going on sale on Friday, August 5 at www.ColoradoRapids.com and 303-825-GOAL.
Colorado will travel to San Pedro Sula, Honduras, to face Real España on Tuesday, August 23. In the Group Stage, the Rapids will face each of the other teams in Group B at home and on the road, though the remaining games have yet to be scheduled. The CONCACAF Champions League is an annual 24-team tournament that identifies the best club team from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean, and the winner earns a berth in the 2012 FIFA Club World Cup, a tournament featuring the winners of the other respective continental championships, including the European Champions League and South America's Copa Libertadores.
