COMMERCE CITY, Colo. - The Colorado Rapids could not overcome Chad Marshall's goal in the 39th minute, as the Columbus Crew won 1-0 Saturday night at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.

The loss was just the Rapids second of the season at home moving their record to 5-2-3 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park on the year.

The game's only score was set up following Cory Gibbs' foul on Steven Lenhart, as Columbus was given a free kick opportunity 20-yards from goal.

The Crew's Robbie Rogers proceeded to take the kick, passing it to Marshall just yards to his right, creating enough space around the Colorado defensive wall. Marshall struck the ball hard to the lower right of the target underneath a diving Matt Pickens for his third score of the season.

Marshall's shot on goal was the only shot for Columbus in the first half.

The Rapids best chance of the night to equalize came in the 53rd minute when Omar Cummings' header from Colin Clark was saved by William Hesmer as the ‘keeper lay across the goal line holding the ball inches away from a tying score.

Colorado played the final six minutes of the match a man down after Ugo Ihemelu picked up his second yellow card caution of the match resulting in an ejection after a hard tackle on Lenhart.

The Rapids complete their three-game home stand next week when they host Chivas USA on Saturday, August 8 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park at 7:30 pm MT.
