March 5, 2009 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Colorado Rapids News Release
COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (Thursday, March 5, 2009) - The Colorado Rapids have again joined with the W-League's Colorado Force from Ft. Collins to present a soccer doubleheader, featuring the highest level of women's and men's soccer in North America as part of the Rapids' 3rd annual Women's Soccer Celebration.
On June 24, 2009, Dick's Sporting Goods Park will host the Force's match against the new Women's Professional Soccer club NJ/NY Sky Blue FC, kicking off at 4:30 p.m. The game will precede the match between the Rapids and FC Dallas, which will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
"The Rapids are pleased to once again be partnering with the Force and to be bringing this event back to Dick's Sporting Goods Park," said Rapids Managing Director Jeff Plush.
"Having the opportunity to showcase the best the game has to offer at both the men's and women's professional level is what makes this doubleheader so special for us and our fans."
The doubleheader is a part of the Rapids' 3rd Annual Women's Soccer Celebration, which was launched in 2007 to recognize positive and influential women, promote healthy lifestyles, raise awareness of women's sports and role models, and unite Colorado soccer fans.
Between the games, members of Sky Blue FC and the Force will conduct an interactive clinic and autograph session for young players ages 3-18.
Fans interested participating in the clinic and autograph session, presented by the Force and Sky Blue FC, and beginning at 6:15 p.m., may purchase tickets to that for an additional $25 from www.forcesoccer.org. Fans will get the opportunity to meet international superstars Natasha Kai, Christie Rampone and Heather O'Reilly and the entire Sky Blue and Force sides after the clinic for an autograph session.
Amy Snider, co-founder and owner of the Force, calls the event an opportunity to bring the state's soccer fans together. "One of the endearing aspects of soccer is how it brings people together to share their enjoyment of the game," Snider said. "We think fans who follow MLS will be impressed by what the top women's teams have to offer and appreciate these ladies' skills. Women's soccer fans will have a chance to show their support of the WPS's Sky Blue, W-League's Colorado Force, and the Rapids in the same evening."
Tickets for the 3rd Annual Women's Soccer Celebration start at just $12. One ticket will get fans into both matches that night. Tickets are available for purchase at the Dick's Sporting Goods Park Box Office, via phone by calling TicketHorse at 1-866-461-6556, at the kiosks at any Colorado Dick's Sporting Goods location, or online at ColoradoRapids.com.
