Rapids Announce 2006 Preseason Plans

DENVER, CO (Thursday, February 2, 2006)- The Colorado Rapids announced today the team's 2006 preseason plans, which include trips to México, Miami and Spain.

Fernando Clavijo's side, which reported for their first practice session of 2006 yesterday, will remain in U.S. territory for the next two weeks, training at the team's facility in Westminster, CO.

The Black & Blue will then embark on a trip to the city of Pachuca, México, where they will enjoy the hospitality of Mexican first division side Club de Fútbol Pachuca, who will host the Rapids at their state of the art training facilities from February 15th to February 27th.

During their stay in "Mexico's Windy City", which is located approximately 55 miles northeast from Mexico City, the Rapids will play three friendly matches, including a game against Pachuca's first team, who are currently undefeated in the Mexican First Division.

The team will then return to Colorado for eight days before traveling to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where they will face the United States Under-20 National Team on March 10th.

The Black & Blue will then take on team OKAP, the defending champions of the Madame Gougousse Haitian Cup Tournament, on March 11th at 7:00 p.m. at North Miami Stadium, which is located on the Florida International University's North Campus.

The Rapids will then travel to the city of Bilbao, Spain on March 12th, where they will remain until March 24th. The Black and Blue will be hosted by Athletic Club Bilbao and will be utilizing their training facilities during their stay in Spanish territory. The team is scheduled to play three friendly games against first and second division teams in the area.

Clavijo and his players will return to Colorado on March 25th, and there they will perform the squad's final training tune-ups to prepare for the Rapids' 2006 season opener, when they travel to Texas to become the first-ever MLS club to face off against the newest MLS side, Houston 1836, on April 1st.
