COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (Friday, February 27, 2009) - The Colorado Rapids acquired the rights to forward Gregory Richardson in a trade with Toronto FC, the club announced today. In exchange, Colorado sent their natural second round 2010 SuperDraft pick to Toronto FC.

"I think we are adding a very explosive and athletic forward who I believe has a huge amount of potential," said head coach Gary Smith. "I am sure he will be a wonderful addition to our already youthful and exciting front line."

Richardson, given the nickname "Jackie Chan" by friends, has been on trial with Toronto FC during the 2009 preseason and appeared in three exhibition matches with TFC. His addition to the Rapids' roster will make him the first Guyanese player to sign a contract with Major League Soccer.

The Guyana National Team forward recently made a name for himself playing with the Trinidad & Tobago Pro League club Joe Public F.C., where he recorded a hat trick and added an assist in a 4-0 victory over the New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium on September 2, 2008 in CONCACAF tournament play. In 2007, he was recognized by the Pro League Board as the Most Valuable Player of the FA Trophy.
