COMMERCE CITY, COLO. (Friday, February 27, 2009) - The Colorado Rapids announced today that their journey into the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup will start the same place it did last year, Los Angeles.

The Rapids are scheduled to play the LA Galaxy on Tuesday, April 7 at The Home Depot Center at 8:30 pm MT in a play-in match for qualification for America's oldest sporting tournament.

Last year, Colorado eliminated the Galaxy from Open Cup competition with a 1-0 victory on Conor Casey's 82nd minute goal in a first round play-in match at The Home Depot Center on May 27.

If Colorado defeat LA, they will then face the winner of Real Salt Lake vs. Seattle Sounders FC for the opportunity to reach the Round of 16.

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the U.S. Soccer Federation's National Championship, is an annual competition open to all amateur and professional soccer teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. It is the oldest annual team tournament in U.S. sports history and among the oldest soccer tournaments of its type in the world.

The top six MLS teams from 2008 qualified for the Open Cup, while the Rapids and the other seven American teams in MLS are forced to go through qualifying to reach the tournament.
