Rangers Travel to Owen Sound for Midweek Matchup

Kitchener, ON - The Kitchener Rangers get back on the road to Owen Sound for a midweek matchup to face the Attack after a weekend at home. The Rangers picked up two wins in overtime over the weekend against London and Kingston. Puck drop is slated for 7 pm at The Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre.

This Season:

This season the Rangers and Attack have taken the ice six times splitting the series three apiece. When on the road Kitchener has a 2-1-0-0 record. Their most recent game was on December 30th in Owen Sound where the Rangers won 5-2. Luke Ellinas grabbed two goals along while Trent Swick and Adrian Misaljevic registered one each. Matthew Andonovksi (Ottawa Senators) had two helpers, Hunter Brzustewicz (Calgary Flames), Cameron Reid, and Misaljevic each tallied an assist. Owen Sound skaters Colby Barlow (Winnipeg Jets) and Ethan Burroughs grabbed the goals with Sam Sedley recording two assists, Cedrick Guidon (Montreal Canadiens) and Colby Barlow (Winnipeg Jets) each added one assist.

Over the Years:

Dating back to the 2018-19 season Kitchener and Owen Sound have faced off 40 times with the Rangers owning a 23-13-3-1 record. When playing in Owen Sound the Rangers continue to own the record at 11-6-2-1. In these 40 games, the Rangers and Attack have a 22-goal differential with Kitchener having scored 145 goals and the Attack scoring 120. The best Rangers campaign against the Attack was the 2018-19 season when Kitchener went 6-2-0-0 scoring 42 goals and only allowing 24 in eight games.

Rangers Recently:

The Kitchener Rangers have won seven of their last eight games most recently winning 3-2 in overtime against Kingston on Sunday. Hunter Brzustewicz (Calgary Flames) opened the scoring with Matthew Andonovksi (Ottawa Senators) and Adrian Misaljevic adding assists on Sunday afternoon. Flip Mešár (Montreal Canadiens) grabbed a goal assisted by Eduard Šalé (Seattle Kraken) and Trent Swick. In overtime, Carson Rehkopf registered his 50th goal of the season to win the game, with assists from Brzustewicz and Šalé.

Razor's Race:

Carson Rehkopf (Seattle Kraken) became the 16th member of the Kitchener Rangers Hockey Club to score 50 goals in a single season on Sunday afternoon against Kingston. He is in a three-way tie for the third-most points in the league with a 50-37-87 stat line while leading the league in goals. He also has the most game-winning goals with 10, the most insurance goals with nine, and is tied for the most power-play goals at 15 in the OHL. Over his last 10 games, Rehkopf has 21 points with 13 goals and eight assists.

Brew's Blueline:

Hunter Brzustewicz (Calgary Flames) continues to lead the Rangers defenceman with a 12-72-84 stat line in 59 games. With two points Sunday, Brzustewicz tied Hockey Hall of Famer Al MacInnis for the Rangers' second-highest single season point total by a defenceman in franchise history (84). The defender has registered 14 points (4G, 10A) over his last 10 games.

Kitchener Kid:

Overager Matthew Sop has played 59 games recording 37 goals and 44 assists for 81 points so far this season, to put him third on the Rangers in points. Sop has the third most goals in the league and is in a three-way tie for the second most game-winning goals (8). The centreman has 12 points (7G, 5A) over the past 10 games.

In The Crease:

Jackson Parsons has played 45 games this season with a 25-15-1-0 record. Parsons holds the third-best goals-against average in the league at 2.99 and a .896 save percentage. The netminder has started the past eight games for the Rangers, most recently on Sunday against Kingston in which he saw 18 shots allowing two for a .889 save percentage and a 1.87 goals-against average.

Last Time Out:

The Owen Sound Attack are on a three-game losing streak after losing to Guelph, Saginaw, and most recently Peterborough on Sunday afternoon. Colby Barlow (Winnipeg Jets) netted the sole Attack goal assisted by Sam Sedley and Deni Goure in their 4-1 loss.

Attack to Watch:

Deni Goure leads the Attack in points (85), has the second most goals (32), the most assists (53), second most power-play assists (22), and has the most game-winning goals (7). Goure is on a seven-game point streak with four goals, and seven assists for 11 points.

Ethan Burroughs is second in points for Owen Sound with 69 (29G, 40A). Burroughs has been one of the Attack's main special teams contributors with the second most goals on the power-play at 10 and the most short-handed goals with three, followed by the most insurance goals with four.

Sam Sedley leads the Attack blueline with nine goals and 49 assists for 58 points in 56 games. The overage defenceman has six assists over his last 10 games.

Goaltending:

In his rookie season so far, Carter George has played in 49 games registering a 29-18-5-3 record. He has the best save percentage in the league at .913 and has a 3.09 goals-against average.
