Rangers to Host Annual Food Drive on Thanksgiving Monday
October 7, 2019 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release
The Kitchener Rangers are proud to once again partner with The Food Bank of Waterloo Region for the Food Bank Kitchener Rangers Game Day. Join us for a special Thanksgiving Monday matinee featuring your Rangers and the Sudbury Wolves on Monday, October 14th at 2pm.
In the spirit of giving, Food Bank volunteers will be on site at The Aud collecting non-perishable food and cash donations at each entrance as well as the Community Corner for the Onkel Hans Food Drive.
Hunger doesn't discriminate, as has been evidenced by the fact that 1-in-5 of those turning to food banks are working people and/or families.
"It's incredible to see Rangers Nation and our community come together to support such an important cause," says the Rangers Director of Marketing and Communications, Michelle Benevides.
"The support our fans show to help us win on the ice and give back to others outside of the rink is tremendous."
Currently, 34,552 individuals are struggling to put food on the table and as many as 1-in-20 households in our community need food support. The Food Bank also distributes 1,500 community meals every day.
"The reality is hunger can impact anyone, anywhere at any time, it could be a car repair, medical costs or an unexpected job loss," said Wendi Campbell, Chief Executive Officer, The Food Bank of Waterloo Region.
"It's always incredible to see how the community comes together to help those in need. We are thankful for the support Rangers fans have provided over the years to ensure no one goes hungry in our community."

Aside from the Food Bank Kitchener Rangers Game Day, the Rangers and The Food Bank of Waterloo Region will also team up for the annual Rangers Classroom Food Drive Challenge.
The elementary school that raises the most food per student will get the opportunity to send one class to The Food Bank of Waterloo Region where they will help sort food, tour the facility and learn about local food insecurity. They will also enjoy a pizza lunch as well as a visit from the Kitchener Rangers.
