Kitchener Rangers News Release
Kitchener, ON - The Rangers are thrilled to partner up with Mitts for Kids in an effort to provide less fortunate children with winter apparel. The event is scheduled to take place during the November 17th game at The Aud.
Fans are encouraged to bring new or gently used hats, mittens, and snowsuits to the game, which will be collected and delivered to the Children's Needs Distribution Centre (CNDC). Rangers Authentics store will also mark down mittens for fans to purchase and donate.
Mitts for Kids donation drop-off will be conveniently located outside of Rangers Authentics, providing a designated area for fans to contribute to this heartwarming cause.
The Rangers, in collaboration with Mitts for Kids, aim to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children in need by ensuring they have access to warm and dry winter clothing for the winter season.
Background:
Ten years ago, with the support of Rotary Waterloo, and through a community center, Barb Wahl initiated the purchase and donation of gently used snowsuits to needy kids. The project, which started with providing snowsuits, evolved into a partnership with CNDC, and last year alone, over 400 kids received warm winter wear. The project operates with zero overhead, relying on funding from individuals, a church, and a group of teachers.
Children's Needs Distribution Centre has a 30-year history of supplying families with children's essentials, including car seats, strollers, toys, and clothing. Families visit on a weekly basis to 'free shop' for items they require. With winter wear consistently in short supply the "Mitts for Kids" event is a direct response to the ongoing need for warm and dry mitts for children in the community.
