Rangers GM Jon Daniels To Speak At 'Dads 2010 Hot

HICKORY, N.C. - The Hickory Crawdads, South Atlantic League affiliate of the Texas Rangers, have announced the details of the 2010 Hot Stove Banquet, which will take place at Rock Barn Golf and Spa on Wednesday, Jan. 20. This year's keynote speaker will be Rangers General Manager Jon Daniels.
Daniels became the eighth general manager in Rangers history after being promoted to the position on Oct. 4, 2005. At the time of his appointment, Daniels became the youngest general manager in Major League Baseball history at 28 years and 41 days old.
In his first two seasons, Daniels and the baseball operations staff completely overhauled the club's farm system. The Rangers entered the 2009 campaign with the best farm system in baseball, as ranked by both Baseball America and ESPN.com. In 2008, Baseball America listed the Rangers as having the fourth-best farm system, up from 28th in 2007, which marked the largest one-year jump in the history of the rankings.
Daniels served as assistant general manager with the Rangers from 2004-05 and director of baseball operations from 2003-04, after joining the organization in 2002 as a baseball operations assistant. A 1999 graduate of Cornell University in upstate New York, the New York City native earned his degree in applied economics and management. He and his wife Robyn have a son, Lincoln, and a daughter, Harper, and reside in Southlake, Texas.
The Crawdads Hot Stove will also feature season previews from local high school and college coaches. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with a social gathering. A silent auction will be held during the evening with a number of local and national sports memorabilia items up for bid. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. with the program to follow. Individual tickets for the Hot Stove are $35. Discounted group tables of eight are available for $240.
