Rangers Fall 5-4 in Shootout to 67's

The Ottawa 67's snapped the Kitchener Rangers eight game winning streak with a 5-4 shootout victory at The Aud.

Tyler Toffoli gave the 67's an early 1-0 lead after his slapshot beat Rangers goaltender Mike Morrison over the glove at 3:30. Ottawa capitalized on a 2-on-1 rush with Dalton Smith scoring 5-hole to make it 2-0 by the 9:01 mark. The Rangers were unable to respond before the close of the period.

Jason Akeson scored off a backhand feed from Michael Catenacci at the 3:01 mark of the second to put the Rangers within one goal of the 67's (2-1). Kitchener's Gabriel Landeskog scored on a 2-on-1 advantage at 11:26 to tie the game 2-2 and close scoring in the period.

The 67's scored two quick goals to take a 4-2 lead by 5:27 of the third period. Goals were from Toffoli, his second of the game and Cody Lindsay. Tobias Rieder responded with a shot that went off Ottawa netminder Petr Mrazek's glove and in to the net at 7:11 to make it 4-3. Landeskog scored his second of the game at 16:16 to tie the game 4-4. After 60-minutes of play the score remained 4-4 and the game was pushed into overtime.

The overtime period was scoreless. Shane Prince and Toffoli both scored in the shootout for Ottawa to take the win. Akeson and Catenacci shot for the Rangers.
