Kitchener-native Scott commits to Rangers Saturday:

The Rangers added depth on the blue line Saturday when the club completed a trade with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. The Rangers acquired the rights to and have signed Kitchener-native Blair Scott. Scott, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound left shot defenceman, was a fifth-round (98th overall) pick by Sault Ste. Marie in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection. He spent his youth hockey playing for the Kitchener Jr. Rangers in the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario (MHAO) and has now committed to an OHL Standard Player Agreement (SPA) and education package with the Rangers.

Head-to-head:

In twelve meetings between Kitchener and Erie, the Rangers hold the advantage with a 6-3-1-2 record since the 2019-20 regular season. Five of the twelve meetings between these two clubs have been played at the Erie Insurance Arena.

The last meeting between these two clubs at the Erie Insurance Arena was played on April 11. Kitchener was victorious coming away with a 3-2 regulation win. Current Ranger forwards Adam Zidlicky and Reid Valade scored in that game with Ty Hollet and Francesco Pinelli picking up an assist each. Returning Erie players Elias Cohen, Artyom Kulakov, and Carey Terrance picked up points for Erie.

Most recently, Erie hosted the Windsor Spitfires last night. Erie came away with a 7-4 regulation victory extending their winning streak to three games. The Otters scored two goals in 10 seconds and three goals in 29 seconds last night. Colby Saganiuk recorded four points on the night with two goals and two assists. Brett Bressette also recording a multi-point night with three (1G, 2A). Kitchener last played on Friday night where they dropped a 6-3 decision to Erie.

Scouting the Rangers:

Defenceman Hunter Brzustewicz enters play on a nine-game point streak after providing another assist on a Rangers goal Friday night. Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings) also remains hot entering play with a four-game point streak of his own recording eight points (6G, 2A). The Rangers also welcome back defenceman Tomas Hamara (Ottawa Senators) to the lineup after serving a two-game suspension for a slew foot in the game against Guelph at the Sleeman Centre.

Tomas Hamara (Ottawa Senators), Filip Mešár (Montréal Canadiens), Francesco Pinelli (Los Angeles Kings) and Roman Schmidt (Tampa Bay Lightning) are four Kitchener skaters that are both drafted and signed by their NHL clubs respectively.

Scouting the Otters:

A trio of Erie forwards enter today's game on three-game point streaks: Brett Bressette (3G, 3A), Liam Gilmartin (2G, 4A), and Colby Saganiuk (3G, 7A). Each player recorded a multi-point night at The Aud on Friday.

Elias Cohen returns for his fourth OHL season with the Erie Otters. The 2002-born center from Toronto recorded his best points production season last year with 61 points (24G, 37) in 65 games. Good for the second best in points and joint for the team lead in goals. Elias is also the highest points getter of any returning Otters this season.

Goaltender Nolan Lalonde was signed as a free agent by the Columbus Blue Jackets after his rookie season in Erie last year. The goaltender has suited up in three games for Erie this season recording 1.97 goals against average and 0.931 save percentage.

Liam Gilmartin (San Jose Sharks), Christian Kyrou (Dallas Stars) and Nolan Lalonde (Columbus Blue Jackets) are the three Erie skaters drafted by their NHL clubs respectively.
