Rangers Community Assists: Week 5 Winner Announced
April 12, 2021 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Kitchener Rangers News Release
In March 2020, the world, our lives, and community changed. As we reflect on the last year, the Kitchener Rangers would like to recognize the role and impact of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region staff and volunteers.
The Food Bank of Waterloo Region made significant adjustments to their operations to ensure the safe and ongoing distribution of emergency food assistance and other essential services throughout the region.
This meant changes to their day-to-day operations, such as: limiting the number of volunteers and staff in the building, pre-packing hampers on-site, and increasing the number of deliveries to the Community Food Assistance Network.
It is impossible to call out one person because it was a collective effort. In a time where people were afraid and unsure, staff and volunteers at The Food Bank remained focused on helping neighbours in need by acquiring, coordinating and distributing emergency food when and where it was needed.
From March 23, 2020 - March 11, 2020:
- 3,470,184 meals were distributed by the Community Food Assistance Network.
- 3,911 deliveries were made to households - in the early days deliveries increased by 159%.
- 90,880 emergency food hampers were packed on-site and distributed to the Community Food Assistance Network.
- More than 4.4 million pounds of fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food was acquired, coordinated and distributed.
It truly takes a village and thousands of people - our friends, neighbours, co-workers - may not have had access to emergency food throughout the pandemic without the exceptional dedication of our staff and volunteers.
Our community partner, Morty's Pub, would like to show appreciation and for the volunteers at the Food Bank of Waterloo Region by providing a $100.00 gift card, the Kitchener Rangers will also be providing some swag through Rangers Authentics.
