Rangers Agree To Terms With Thomas Pock

New York, August 24, 2006 -- New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms with restricted free agent defenseman Thomas Pock.
Pock, 24, spent a majority of the 2005-06 season with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL), registering 15 goals and 46 assists for 61 points, along with 99 penalty minutes in 67 games. He finished the season ranking second on the Wolf Pack in assists (46) and tied for fifth on the team in scoring with 61 points. His 61 points ranked third among all AHL defensemen and also set a Wolf Pack franchise record for points in a single season by a defenseman. Pock also skated in six postseason contests with the Wolf Pack, notching three assists along with 15 penalty minutes. In addition, the 2006 AHL All-Star appeared in eight games with the Rangers, registering one goal and one assist, along with four penalty minutes.
The 6-1, 208-pound defenseman has appeared in 14 career games with the Rangers, registering three goals and three assists, along with four penalty minutes. In 117 career American Hockey League (AHL) games with the Hartford Wolf Pack, Pock has collected 16 goals and 51 assists for 67 points, along with 154 penalty minutes.
Prior to joining the professional ranks in North America, Pock appeared in 130 career games with the University of Massachusetts Minutemen (Hockey East), registering 44 goals and 58 assists for 102 points, along with 179 penalty minutes. He finished his U-Mass career tied for sixth on the school's all-time scoring list with 102 points. As a senior, Pock was named a Hockey East First Team All-Star, was selected to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team and was tabbed a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award, given annually to the nation's top collegiate player. During his junior year, he was selected as a Hockey East Second Team All-Star and was also voted as the Minutemen's most valuable player.
Before attending the University of Massachusetts, the Klagenfurt, Austria native played for the Klagenfurt Athletic Club of the Austrian Senior League. He was also a member of the Austrian National Team at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah and at the World Championships in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.
Pock was originally signed by the Rangers as a free agent on March 23, 2004.
