Omaha Lancers News Release
RALSTON, NE - As determined by a league-wide poll of USHL Head Coaches and General Managers, Omaha Lancers assistant captain Jake Randolph was named the 2013-14 USHL Forward of the Year, the team announced Monday. A 5'9", 180 lb. winger and Duluth, Minnesota native, Randolph will begin his collegiate career in 2014-15 with the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks.
"We're thrilled for Jake to receive this prestigious award," said Lancers Head Coach and General Manager Brian Kaufman on Monday. "The past two seasons, Jake's been an important leader for our team both on and off the ice and his production this year played a big role in our success as a team."
The USHL's leading scorer in 2013-14, Randolph tallied 26 goals and 86 total points last season, including 60 assists, a new Tier 1 era (2002-present) league-wide record. Randolph also led the USHL with 24 power-play assists last year, ranked third in shooting percentage (21.7%) and fourth in plus/minus (+37). "This is a huge honor," said Randolph on Monday. "It's kind of surreal, I never thought I would get something like this.I'm just extremely honored and humbled."
In 124 career regular season games played for Omaha, Randolph failed to miss a single contest in his junior career. With 39 goals and 130 total points to his credit, Randolph finished his Lancers career as the franchise's sixth leading scorer all-time, with a plus-22 rating, 47 combined penalty minutes and five total points (2G, 3A) in four career playoff games. Randolph's 86 points last season were the third-most for a Lancers player in an individual season in franchise history, the most by a Lancers skater in the Tier 1 era and the highest point total for a Lancers player since Matt White's 82-point campaign in 2009-10.
Despite his personal success, Randolph says, he shares this recognition with his teammates. "Playing with such great guys helps so much," explained Randolph Monday. "You get your individual success from having team success and there's no doubt, this is a team award." Randolph also pointed to coaching as a major influence in his development. "With Coach Kaufman, I just can't thank him enough," said Randolph. "Over these past two years, he's taught me how to be a man and made me a better hockey player.he's a huge part of this award too."
With Monday's announcement, Randolph became the fourth Lancers skater to win the USHL's Forward of the Year award, joining the likes of Mike Howe (2003-04), Mike Lephart (1996-97) and Neil Donovan (1992-93).
In 2014-15, the five-time Anderson Cup and seven-time Clark Cup Champion Omaha Lancers drop the puck on their 29th season in the USHL.
