Jake Randolph Named 2013-14 USHL Forward of the Year

Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League today announced that Jake Randolph of the Omaha Lancers has been named the 2013-14 USHL Forward of the Year as determined by a vote of League coaches and general managers.

Randolph led the USHL in scoring with 86 points (26g, 60a) while appearing in all 60 regular season games. He finished 12 points ahead of the next highest scorer, and it was the second consecutive season that he played every single game for the Lancers. His 60 assists set a new USHL Tier 1 era (2002-present) record for most in a season, breaking the record of 59 by John Kemp of the Indiana Ice in 2007-08. Randolph dished out two assists in the final regular season game for the Lancers to break the record, including an assist with just 1:06 remaining in the third period of the 4-2 win against the Sioux Falls Stampede on April 5th.

He ranked tied for 14th in the USHL with 26 goals, scoring those goals on 120 shots to rank third in the League with a .217 shooting percentage. The forward finished the regular season with a plus-37 rating, the fourth-best mark in the USHL as he finished with an even-or-better rating in 53 of the 60 games for Omaha. He also helped the Lancers rank as one of the USHL's top teams on the power play as he dished out 24 assists on the man-advantage, the most assists on the power play in the USHL since the 2009-10 season (26 - T.J. Tynan, Des Moines Buccaneers).

The 86 points by Randolph are the most by a Lancers player in the Tier 1 era, breaking the record of 82 points (35g, 47a) by Matt White during the 2009-10 season. His point total is also the third-most all-time in Omaha Lancers history, following Angelo Ricci (91 points in 1989-90) and Mike Lephart (90 points 1996-97), and his assist total is the most in team history. He is the first Lancers player to lead the USHL in scoring since Mike Howe (78 points) and Paul Stastny (77 points) finished first and second during the 2003-04 season.

Randolph put together a 14-game point streak earlier in the season as he accumulated 28 points (8g, 20a) over that span and led the Lancers to a 10-2-2 record in those games. It was the second-longest point streak in the USHL this season. The Duluth, Minnesota native also twice equaled a USHL season high with five-point games on October 12th (1g, 4a) vs. Des Moines and December 27th (2g, 3a) vs. Tri-City. His four-assist night on October 12th also equaled a League season high.

"Jake was a constant on the scoresheet for the Lancers this season and a shining example of the elite offensive talent in the League," said Skip Prince, USHL President and Commissioner. "After a solid first year in the USHL, he became a dominant player this year and helped lead the Omaha Lancers to an outstanding season. Congratulations to him on this honor and we look forward to watching him to continue put up points in Omaha over the next few seasons in college hockey."

Randolph nearly doubled his point total in 2013-14 from his team-leading 44 points (13g, 31a) in 64 games last year. Over his career in the USHL, he amassed 130 points (39g, 91a) over 124 regular season games and added five points (2g, 3a) in four playoff contests. He will continue to play hockey in Omaha as he begins his college career next season at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

He is the fourth member of the Lancers to win the USHL Forward of the Year, joining Mike Howe (2003-04), Mike Lephart (1996-97), and Neil Donovan (1992-93).
