Bakersfield, CA - Three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning gave Bakersfield their fifth straight win, as the Quakes dropped a 5-3 decision to the Blaze on Saturday night at Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield.

Leading 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, Quakes' reliever Ryan O'Sullivan (1-1) walked the first man he faced to start the frame, then surrendered a two-run blast to Donald Lutz, as the Blaze took the lead for good at 4-3. Bakersfield took advantage of Rancho's fourth error on the night later in the inning, adding to their lead and making it 5-3.

Pat Doyle (9-3), who recorded the final out of the eighth, worked a 1-2-3 ninth to hold on to the victory.

Joc Pederson gave starting pitcher Andres Santiago an early lead, as he homered two batters into the game for his seventh home run of the year and a 1-0 Rancho lead.

Bakersfield picked up a run without the aid of a hit in the fourth, then scored another in the fifth, capitalizing on a pair of walks to make it 2-1.

The Quakes answered with two in the sixth off of Blaze starter Josh Smith. Leon Landry doubled to open the inning, then scored on a Pederson single, evening the game at 2-2. Angelo Songco gave the Quakes the lead, grounding a two-out single to center field to bring home Pederson and give the Quakes a 3-2 lead.

After their fourth straight loss, the Quakes (9-14, 46-47) will look to get on track on Sunday evening, as Garrett Gould (3-6) will take on Daniel Renken (4-5) in the middle game of the three-game series. Game time is 7:45pm on Sunday night from Bakersfield.

The Quakes will return to The Epicenter on Tuesday, July 17th, hosting Lake Elsinore and Lancaster as part of a six-game home stand. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. Go Quakes!
