Rampage's Marshall Named AFL's Ironman of Week

Grand Rapids, MI - The Arena Football League announced today that Grand Rapids Rampage wide receiver/defensive back Willis Marshall has been selected as the AFL's Ironman of the Week for his performance during the final week of the 2002 season.

Marshall (5-10, 195, Youngstown State) turned in a true "Ironman" performance in the Rampage's 63-60 victory over the Detroit Fury at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The former Penguin caught seven passes for 116 yards and a team-high three touchdowns, while adding six solo tackles and a fumble recovery on defense. He also returned six kickoffs for a game-high 118 yards. This marks the first time in Marshall's two-year AFL career that he has garnered league-wide honors.

Marshall just recently completed his best season as a professional. Playing in all 14 games, the Detroit native led the defending champs in catches (80), receiving yards (973), kick returns (41), return yards (813), return touchdowns (1) and all-purpose yards (1,819). He also added 15 touchdown catches (2nd on team) on offense, and 36 tackles, one fumble recovery and 10 pass break ups on defense.

The Rampage begin their quest for back-to-back championships against the Carolina Cobras this Sunday in the first round of the 2002 AFL playoffs. Kickoff at Van Andel Arena is at 1:30 p.m. The game can be seen live on ESPN (Cable Channel 47) and heard live on WBBL 1340 AM.
