San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (22-32-4-1) snapped a twelve-game losing streak after defeating the Cleveland Monsters (27-25-3-4) 4-2 on Sunday afternoon at the AT&T Center. Forward Colin Smith contributed a goal and an assist en route to his first multiple-point effort in a Rampage sweater this season, earning the First Star of the Game. Rampage skaters Chris Bigras and Brendan Ranford both registered two assists on the evening, while netminder Joe Cannata recorded his first victory with the Silver and Black. The Rampage opened the scoring early in the first when Gabriel Bourque netted a pass from Sergei Boikov and Ranford at the front door of Cleveland's goaltender Anton Forsberg at 7:22. Rocco Grimaldi extended San Antonio's lead to two when he blasted the puck from the top of the right circle and banked his 24th goal of the season with helpers from Smith and Bigras 15:27 into the frame. Cleveland got on the board midway through the second stanza when Marc-Andre Bergeron capitalized on a power play at 13:31. San Antonio regained a two-goal lead when Alex Belzile served a shorthanded goal with help from Reid Petryk 16:34 into the period. However, a late Cleveland goal from Joe Pendenza with nine seconds to go narrowed the lead back to one. The third period remained scoreless until Smith found the back of the net at 16:08 thanks to Ranford and Bigras, who set up the second Rampage power-play goal of the evening. Exactly two minutes later, the Monsters cut the lead to one when Alex Petan landed his third goal of the season at 18:08. However, Cleveland's rally fell short as the Rampage secured their third-straight victory against the Monsters in the 2016-17 campaign.
